Each week we carry out at least 12 counter surveillance bug sweeps, both in residential properties and on commercial sites.
Out of these 12 it is usual that 4 of them are in situations where a husband, wife or partner has planted the hidden camera, listening bug or car tracker. And when people do this, its stalking.
Even when relationships have ended, the ex-partner still feels they want to know what their ex is up to. Usually, they still have access to the property or vehicle, which makes it easier to plant a hidden microphone / listening device, their access is legitimate and therefore they can place the surveillance device in the place they think will yield the best information.
It is common for the person who is carrying out the covert surveillance to simply wanting to know what the other person is doing, as part of their controlling, narcissist behaviour.
We have many cases where the client has suspected their ex-partner of planting something within their home as information is being fed back to the client, or their ex is turning up at locations when they shouldn’t know where they are.
Planting / hiding a spy camera or listening device is simple enough, even when it is battery powered, the user simply removes it when they next visit the property or vehicle. Monitoring the device is more challenging, but with the use of the latest technology, some surveillance devices can alert the user to start listening or watching the video feed instead of continuously listening / watching an empty room or vehicle.

The outcome in most cases is we detect and find the hidden surveillance device in the clients home or vehicle. We photograph it in situ, remove it being forensically aware and hand it to the client.
We then provide the client with a report of the bug sweep carried out and our assessment. We also provide a statement to the Police if requested, however, in most cases the Police leave it the civil courts to deal with, unless there is a sinister motive behind the planting of the device such as harassment, voyeurism or another sexual motive.
Spy cameras and micro listening devices are easily purchased off the internet, and are not regulated as to their use or deployment. Most are easy to set up with no real IT knowledge or expertise required, simply the funds to purchase one.
The stress and worry clients experience is very harmful. They sense they cannot live a normal life and feel threatened and intimidated, believing that an ex-partner is watching or listening in on them. It is only when they have a professional bug sweep carried out, that they have taken a positive step in protecting their security, privacy and ultimately their mental well-being.
